Description: By scientifically combining the powerful concussive effects of a
significant propelling charge of low explosive with the painful impact potential
of approximately 60 .45 caliber rubber balls. The HORNETS NEST STING GRENADE is
a very effective distraction/diversion device.



History/Background: The HORNETS NEST STING GRENADE was developed as a behavior
modification device for use in a variety of applications.



Potential Targets/Applications: Prison/Civil Rioters



Primary Users: Law Enforcement, Military



Incapacitation Mechanism/Technology: The HORNETS NEST STING GRENADE is a
non-reusable rubber filled grenade filled with approximately 60 .45 caliber
rubber balls and .03 oz. of OC, CS or OC/CS surrounding an explosive charge. The
fuse is ejected by a separate charge after activation eliminating the only metal
portion of the grenade prior to the detonation and expulsion of the rubber
projectiles in a 360° degree radius.



Physical Data: 3.125 inches in diameter and 5.25 inches in height



Performance Characteristics: When detonated, the explosive blasts the rubber
balls out in a 360° degree radius which should be thrown to cover an area 7 to
25 feet from the epicenter. Proper application of this behavior modification
munition will significantly increase the security of a prison, jail orotherwise
sensitive area.



Delivery Means: Hand thrown or launched



Operational Strengths: No additional equipment required.



Operational Limitations: Both minimal and maximum ranges should be established
by test firings conducted at each installation, depending upon tactical
conditions and security requirements of each user. Higher power factors may
produce lethal trauma when vital areas are struck and energy imparted exceeds 90
foot pounds by causing massive skull fractures, rupture of vital organs, heart
compression and/or serious skin lacerations. Normal use may result in
contusions, abrasions, broken ribs and concussions.



Documentation Requirements: It is recommended that officers training records be
annotated to indicate proper training of less lethal blunt impact munitions and
Diversionary devices use has been accomplished.
